Growth Mindset: Put Your Records On!

Growth Mindset: Put Your Records On!

Girl… let your hair down!

One of my favorite songs is Put Your Records On by Corrine Bailey Rae. This record won a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year in 2007 and spoke to my current stage of life as I transition into retirement. I call this season RE-TI-REVIVE. Despite friends and family’s well-meaning advice to relax and take it easy, my growth mindset drives me to explore new possibilities.

When I listen to the lyrics of Put Your Records On, I am reminded not to get caught up in the same old routine every day. Instead, I can take time to figure out my next steps and let the answers reveal themselves. This song inspires me to maintain my growth mindset by embracing risks and pushing boundaries to avoid stagnation.

And how about you?

Perhaps, like me, you are at a point in your life where you are contemplating your next steps. Please remember that this is only the beginning of the next phase. The singer’s lyrics encourage a growth mindset: we can attain anything by taking action, learning from our errors, and striving to develop and progress. We can achieve our objectives by concentrating on the journey rather than the destination.

Go ahead and let your hair down, but don’t stay stuck. A growth mindset requires movement and continuous improvement. Take a chance, try something new, and challenge yourself to progress—you can do far more than you think!

Try this:

REFLECT on your life and where you want it to go. Think about what steps you need to take to get there. Think about your challenges and how you can stay motivated to keep trying despite the obstacles. Take the time to chart your course in life and make it happen!

Don’t forget to DREAM. For instance, to be a successful entrepreneur, you must start by dreaming up a powerful idea and then taking steps to make it a reality. Or if you want to tap into your creative side. For example, take a few moments each day to daydream or explore your imagination. This can help you develop innovative solutions and ideas to bring to life.

Let your ideas FLOW, and don’t worry about judgment from your internal critic or others. Be brave enough to explore the unknown. Let your curiosity guide you, and don’t be afraid to take risks and make mistakes.

Growth mindsets are about change. Rae sings, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” Your circumstances might look and feel the same, but you can still TRANSFORM inside them! You can change your life with a growth mindset, even under challenging circumstances. You can push yourself to take risks, become more resilient, and develop new skills to help you reach your goals.

Girl, put your records on…go ahead and do what you want to!
